Pick Your Party Style First
Open house. Guests come and go over a few hours, so you rarely need a seat for everyone at once. Many hosts seat about half to two-thirds of the guest list and add cocktail tables for people who stand and mingle.
Sit-down meal. Everyone eats at the same time, so plan a seat for every guest, plus 5 to 10 percent extra chairs.
How Much to Rent
This assumes 5-foot round tables seating 8 each. Six-foot rectangle tables seating 6 each work just as well; you'll need about a third more of them.

Shade and Cooling
Late-May afternoons in North Texas are often hot, so shade and air movement matter.

- 20x30 frame tent: shade for a seated meal, with no center poles

- Portable evaporative coolers and drum fans: keep air moving under the tent
