Winter Outdoor Party Rentals in DFW: Heaters, Tents and Lighting
North Texas winters are mild enough for outdoor parties, but evenings cool off fast once the sun goes down. A few well-chosen rentals turn a chilly backyard into a place guests want to stay.
How Cold Does It Get?
These are the National Weather Service's normal highs and lows for Dallas–Fort Worth (1991 to 2020):
| Month | Normal High | Normal Low |
|---|---|---|
| November | 67°F | 46°F |
| December | 58°F | 38°F |
| January | 57°F | 36°F |
| February | 61°F | 40°F |
Afternoons are comfortable, but an evening party in December or January is planned around the low, not the high. Cold fronts can also drop temperatures quickly, so check the forecast a few days out.
Choosing Heaters
Patio heaters are the tall, freestanding heaters you see on restaurant patios. They warm the space around them, so they work best in open-air areas: a cocktail area, a fire-pit corner or a buffet line. Our patio heaters rent without propane, so add a filled propane tank to your order.
Forced air heaters push warm air into a space, which makes them a better fit for warming a tent. Ask how the forced air heater is fueled and powered, and follow the placement guidance that comes with it.
Plan heat where people gather. Rather than trying to heat a whole yard, place a heater by each seating group, the bar and the food.
Keep it safe. Keep heaters clear of tent walls, linens, decor and walkways. Patio heaters are made for open-air use, so don't run one inside a closed tent.
Add a Tent
A frame tent keeps dew, wind and light rain off your guests and holds heat better than open air. Frame tents have no center poles, so tables and a dance floor fit cleanly. We rent 20x20, 20x30 and 20x40 frame tents.
In Frisco, McKinney, Prosper and Celina, tents of about 400 square feet and up generally need a city permit, and Frisco asks for applications at least 30 days before the event. Our tent permit guide covers each city.
Light the Evening
Sunset comes early in winter, so lighting matters as much as heat. LED string lights make a warm canopy over a patio or tent. If your yard has no trees or posts to hang them from, string light poles with concrete bases do the job. Colored uplights work well against a house wall or tent for a holiday glow.
Other Winter Details
- A hot drinks station: a 6-foot table with a linen keeps coffee and cocoa in one spot.
- Cocktail tables: group cocktail tables near the heaters so guests settle where it's warm.
- Power: if outlets are far from the tent, a portable generator keeps lights and heaters running.
- Book early: our delivery crew's holiday weekends get scheduled first, so reserve as soon as your date is set.
